Picture 1: Condition before restoration, start of dismantling. The first visible rust spots can be seen.
Picture 2: Condition before restoration, start of dismantling. A look into the gutted engine compartment after 26 years of service, the blue was certainly once the original color.
Picture 3: Condition before restoration, start of dismantling. A look inside. Here too, the years of use have left their mark.
Picture 4: Bodywork begins. The bare chassis was picked up after the underbody protection and cavity sealing were removed by dry ice blasting and then completely sandblasted. Only now can the actual condition of the sheet metal parts be realistically assessed. As you can see, the "iron beetle" has chewed up quite a few holes.
Picture 5: Start of bodywork. View of the frame. Typical Trabant area prone to rust.
Picture 6: Bodywork repairs. View of the Trabant's rear. The rear center section and part of the underbody (car boot) were beyond repair. They had to be completely removed and professionally reinstalled.
Picture 7: Bodywork. View of the rear wheel arch. A section of the floor panel in the interior and the fender edge were replaced.
Picture 8: Bodywork. View of the rear wheel arch. Newly installed quarter panel.
Picture 9: Bodywork. View of the rear wheel arch. If you take care when welding in the wheel arches, it looks as if nothing had ever been wrong.
Picture 10: Bodywork. To make the body even more stable, the roll cage was welded in as a cell. View of the reinforced floor panel.
Picture 18: Condition after restoration. Conversion to fully approved LED headlights. The light output is significantly better than with conventional headlights. This not only enhances the vehicle's appearance but also improves road safety (seeing and being seen).
Picture 19: Condition after restoration. View from below into the engine compartment. Here too, everything was replaced without compromise.
Picture 20: Condition after restoration. A look inside. Despite all the sportiness, some music shouldn't be missing.
Picture 21: Condition after restoration. View of the interior. The RECARO bucket seats combine sportiness with elegance.
Picture 22: Condition after restoration. View into the engine compartment. At the customer's request, no changes were made to the heart of the Trabant to avoid increased maintenance. Nevertheless, every component was refurbished and painstakingly restored to like-new condition.
Picture 23: Condition after restoration. View of the side line of the Trabant 601. The ATS alloy wheels subtly emphasize the project's objectives.
